Challenge: Moving to Digital Film Production

Arrow Cinematic Group is one of leading player among the existing renaissance of the Taiwanese film industry.

The Arrow is the key equipment supplier behind many high-profile Taiwanese feature films, such as 2011’s Make Up, which used ARRI D-21 camera to film it, Arrow is also one of major investor. Arrow has supplied camera and lighting equipment for many famous feature in Taiwan, Hong Kong and oversea, such as Cape No. 7, Prince of Tears, and Ballistic, as well as overseas productions including Japan’s Rail Truck, Hong Kong’s Island of Greed, and the Chinese classic Farewell My Concubine.

Digital filming getting popular very fast after 2008, Arrow start to invest high-end digital camera and relevant equipment from 2009.

At the beginning, global economic crisis hit the market and most of people hesitate to do such high volume investment at the time being. While the global economic crisis was getting worse, no one sure whether it would be good idea to do so, but Arrow did it , Thanks to the good investment, Arrow gain many business from D-21 and its successor ALEXA. 

The cost of digital camera systems very different from each level and the digital post-production technology was relatively immature at the timing , the digital production workflow not been well established yet. Nor many expert in the Asia either.  

Arrow, however, could see the potential business opportunity for digital film production in Taiwan as well as Greater China in future. So they decide to survey the best option and advance equipment for the market.


Solution: Best-quality Digital System

In order to help Arrow make the best decision, Jebsen Industrial invited specialist from ARRI and S.Two to come to Taiwan and demonstrate the new technology. ARRI is the world’s leading manufacturer of high-end digital cine cameras, while S.Two is the global market leader in uncompressed recording.

The two Cine industry Leading Company work closely with Jebsen Industrial team, (the leading supplier to the Asian film and broadcast industry which has represented
ARRI in Greater China since 1960) to assist Arrow to purchase right equipment to win its market.

The joint crew demonstrated the ARRIFLEX D-21 camera +Stwo equipment at Arrow Studio, let Arrow to do test shooting and go through postproduction directly to compare the image quality and workflow of the
ARRI D-21 between D21 and the other digital cameras from competitor. 

After the whole workflow test, Arrow decided to choose
ARRI D21 as the entrance ticket to digital camera workflow.

 


Complete After-sales Support

Following the purchase, Jebsen Industrial worked closely with Arrow to provide training on the new system. Furthermore, Jebsen Industrial engineers provide the best support team to Arrow team with onsite technical support when the first feature film start to use digital cine camera. We provided ongoing support to update software and trouble shooting.

Since Arrow’s purchase of the
ARRI digital film equipment, many of the other key players in Asian cinema also adopted the ARRI technology, including Cinerent Beijing, Beijing Galaxy & Starlight, Hong Kong Salon Films, and the Beijing Film Academy.

 


Breakthrough Digital Systems

The ARRIFLEX D-21 is a film-style digital camera with a 35 format CMOS sensor and optical viewfinder. It combines the immediacy of digital cameras with high-end film-style features for outstanding images. ARRI ALEXA base on this technology as well as feedback from D-21 users. The ALEXA is a compact, lightweight, and affordable digital camera that is redefining the limits of motion picture capture. ARRIcameras combine with the S.Two OB-1 recorder to create the most advanced and powerful digital production systems.
