Optical masking film (OMF) is one of the most promising market segments for blown film technology today, especially in China where demand grows steadily. After officially joining hands earlier this year, Jebsen Industrial and Hosokawa Alpine were excited to meet the industry at Film Expo China 2014 (Shenzhen, Nov 25-27), where around 60,000 industry professionals were introduced to Hosokawa Alpine’s new blown film lines for optical masking films (OMF).

While protecting the prism film used in LCD screens remains a challenging aspect for OMF application, the German leader has used its years of experience in commissioning high-end blown film lines in Japan and Korea to develop a groundbreaking new OMF-line. Hosokawa Alpine has even established a three-layer co-extrusion line dedicated to OMF with lay flat widths of up to 2,000mm at its Technology Centre in Augsburg, Germany. As a result, the Alpine OMF-line is fully optimised to offer the highest flexibility in the selection of film structures and the eventual thickness and width of the produced film. It is also designed to overcome common issues, like how its rotating winder is mounted on top of a steel platform to reduce the number of contact points with the film and how the line is equipped with a camera system to ensure a very low gel count. This allows the Alpine OMF-line to consistently produce very high film quality, even in the case of sticky film.
