As a long-time supporter of efforts to promote cross-border business cooperation, Jebsen Industrial was pleased to participate in the SME Forum – China, held on Nov 5, 2014 in Stuttgart, Germany. The event was organised by the German-Chinese Business Association (DCW) on the sidelines of GlobalConnect, an annual tradeshow for exports and internationalisation.

The SME Forum – China welcomed a diverse delegation of 70 professionals from business associations and corporations in industries ranging from law, commerce and consulting to automotive parts manufacturing and engineering. Jebsen Industrial was prominently featured among the event’s six keynote speakers, each of whom delivered a session on the different aspects of doing business in China.

For its part, Jebsen Industrial decided to leverage on its own experience and had Mr Michael Schalk from its Business Development unit speak on “Partnership – Drivers of Success”. In his presentation, Mr Schalk made a compelling argument that the most effective market entry strategies for Western companies is to establish a partnership, or develop a joint venture business, with a local agency. He outlined the unique challenges of the Chinese market including the business environment, regulatory hurdles and high capital outlay requirements. Mr Schalk also shared Jebsen Industrial’s philosophy of taking a long-term view of success in China and how the right partner can help companies secure a sustainable future.

“As a long-term supporter of DCW, I’m glad we were given the opportunity to participate in their SME Forum – China for the first time. Overall, I found it to be a very effective platform to connect with people from different fields in Germany. Our presentation seemed to be quite well received by the delegates, who now also have a better idea of what it takes to succeed in China and the avenues available to them,” said Mr Schalk after the event.
